Marriage
March 29, 2005 – 9:45 amDown in Key West FL for my father and his partner Martin’s wedding. Amazing and overwhelming. I’m still processing it all. First impressions: my father is a great man and Martin is a great man; all family that could make it, did, including my three nieces, which means granddaughters got to watch their gay grandfather get married; Key West is a very queer friendly place and unlike other cities in the US.
Biggest impression: a transsexual son got to watch his gay dad get married.
Deep. Very, very deep.

Whoa! Totally awesome! (I love Key West; I’ve been there many times.)

I think the fact of you being there and them being there for you is one shining example of how diversity is power and pride and beauty. I’m so happy my own life experience has taught me what a huge fucking adventure living on this planet is. I look forward to meeting people with their own stories to tell, folks different from me but fundamentally human just like everyone else. We’re ALL different. It’s just a few of us, though, that realise how great that can be. x

Andy,
“I’m so happy my own life experience has taught me what a huge fucking adventure living of this planet is.”
Well said and what a pleasure to be in this human experiment together!
Thanks for posting.

I can’t help but think how proud your dad must have been to have his son there, happy and healthy and living an authentic life. You are both brave, fierce warriors, and I salute your courage.

He was absolutely delighted with my toast. He lived in England for a number of years and Martin is English. Apparently toasts at English weddings are roasts. I took this approach with my father and brought the house down!
