Feminists and Man Hating

Amanda at Pandagon writes about who really utters man hating language.  Lesbians aren’t doing it; nor are heterosexual feminist women nor bi women (she doesn’t mention bi women, but I’m sure she’d agree) using men-hating language.  Men haters are typically heterosexual, non-feminist women.

An old feminist guy I knew in graduate school claimed men (and women who use it by extension) used the claim "man-hating" as method by which all attention remained on men.

"Lesbians don’t hate you," he would tell men claiming lesbians hated men.  "Lesbians don’t really pay much attention to you, at all."  He then shared with me it is this lack of attention causes some men anxiety. 

To ease their anxiety, they achieve a state of reality denial by claiming that lesbians hate them.  Thus continuing to have women’s attention on them. 

Indifference can be a challenge to all types of priviledge.
