Made me curious about one thing. So here’s a question for you, assuming you want to even attempt to answer:
Why do so many transmen seem to be tattooed and/or pierced? what is the intersection between transsexualism and other forms of body modification? Is one an outgrowth of the other? Is it a mode of community identification?
Or would you say that the reasons are as varied as the individuals and leave it at that?

Tattoos: Gosh, for me, I’ve just always had them…got my first one when I was 19. Maybe I feel like it makes me stand out..who knows.
I do know that I tend to associate with other transmen who tattoo and pierce, so my community is self selected!
Other than that I’ve never really thought about it until you brought it up!

As always, thank you for the broader picture. I do believe that there are more transsexual men who aren’t pierced or identifiable in any way.
Though I do know that people who see me and my ink probably never think I’m transsexual…at least not FtM anyway….

Interesting question about tattoos. For me, getting inked represents a trial-run for possibly taking hormones in the future - it would permanently alter my body, but it wouldn’t prevent me passing as female, so I could explore my feelings about changing my body in a way that doesn’t challenge my notorious cowardice quite so much.
