2.03.2006Who knew Gregory/Vanessa Hemingway (the former third son of Ernest Hemingway and Pauline Pieffer) was a transsexual?
Not me. Of course since I’m always the last to school myself on all things trans related. So I googled Hemingway and came across this statement.
Dr. Gregory Hemingway appears not to be transsexual, as he continued to live as a male after undergoing feminizing procedures. He was more like a transgenderist with wealth and access to medical technology. (link)
So what do you call a person who does not undergo masculinizing or feminizing procedures who lives in their preferred gender all the time? I’ve known folks who have had various surgeries and did not change their so-called outward appearance….
Frankly, this hair-splitting astonishes me. "Oh, I’m sorry. But you’re not a real transsexual…" Like the bigger world really cares? I think they lump us under the label "freak."
Why do we spend waste our life energy with this silly distinctions? Did I miss the memo stating these distinctions are of paramount importance? Sheesh!~
