[Click on image to save/download/print etc. Licensing terms here [1] etc.]Brangelina, formerly of Paris now of Namibia, have apparently gotten the Namibian government to deny visas to journalists wishing to enter the country without their written permission [2]. "This lady is expecting," Namibian Prime Minister Nahas Angula was quoted as telling South Africa's Sunday Times last month. "You guys are harassing her. Why don't you allow her some privacy? Harassment is not allowed in Namibia."Really?!? Harassment not allowed? Maybe Amnesty International [3] missed that memo. The police and paramilitary police, known as the Special Field Forces (SFF), continued to commit human rights violations including arbitrary arrests, excessive use of force, beatings and “disappearances”. The use of torture by police and the SFF to extract confessions from suspects was reported. Approximately 23 deaths in custody occurred during 2002. In October, nine minors were arrested on suspicion of housebreaking. Several police officers wearing SFF uniforms, as well as plain-clothes detectives, reportedly beat and tortured them with whips and electric shocks. Five minors remained in custody at the end of the year. A trial date was scheduled for April 2003.Really, though I do think it very kingly and queenly of Brangelina to decide to chuck certain inconveniences like journalistic freedom. Hell, no! They're rich, famous and famous, dammit! Move to a country in Africa, set up digs in a luxury resort the population can't afford and participate in the regime of harassment. How very American! Tourism must be the highest form of imperialism alive today. I'm sure of it.

cee in the comments section [1] writes:
You obviously know nothing about this world if you think whites are the group most guilty of racism. I enjoin you to move to the new south africa to start oh, let's say a hemp farm...or better yet--Zimbabwe...or even the streets of a project in chicago. Try also applying for citizenship in Japan if you're not Japanese by blood...hmmmm. Your eyes will be opened. (Wow...I had no idea other groups are racist, too!!!???) The worst part of all of this is that your view is the ultimate in white supremacy...namely that only whites can be racist!!! hahahahaha! What idiocy!!!
This argument (x groups are racist, too!!!!) is just plain stupid.
Even if white racism and white privilege were the least offensive racism, it is still racism.
I am still obligated to do something about it. What do the actions of other classes of people have to do with my actions?
Ending white supremacy for me means taking responsibility for my history, learning and behavior. I could farking care less if the assknats of assknatterland are the most racist group on the history of the universe.
That fact in no way detracts from our work.

Why does this guy think that because I criticized [1] Ward Churchill's scholarship and South End Press' silence that scales are falling from leftist eyes [2]?Values aren't like virginity, once broken gone forever, you know?

Matthew Sanford is the yoga instructor. The guy in the wheel chair. When I tell other yoga folks that I found this cool teacher in Minnesota in a wheelchair jaws drop. "Really?" Sanford's reality flies in the face of the super twisting poses extolled on the cover of yoga magazines. But, of course, since our primary practice in yoga is to learn to live in our bodies, these other yoga folks recover.Matthew Sanford's work is a living reminder that our bodies are our allies [1], if we would let that birthright shine through the crap in our minds. We must work hard to quiet our minds. But unless we are dead, anyone can do this work. (And for those who are curious, Sanford has his students in downward facing dog).It took a devastating car accident, paralysis from the chest down, and dependence on a wheelchair before Matthew truly realized the importance of his body. He has been rolling into his body ever since. After the accident, Matthew spent the first fourteen years believing that his mind was shut out of his paralyzed body. He spent the next twelve years practicing hatha yoga and discovered how deeply he was mistaken. Living vibrantly through one’s whole body – whether paralyzed or not – is a powerful part of living.

[Click on image to save/download/print etc. Licensing terms here [1] etc.]Via [2] Homofactus Press:Publishers are responsible to all the communities who offer their life energy in exchange for the fruits of our labor. Had I published The State of Native America I'd be sending out press releases, blogging about how betrayed I feel, discussing what it all means both for activists and the study of history and I'd be working my lefty feminist ass off to stop publishing that version of the book. And I'd probably hunt down Churchill and Jaimes and chew them both out.[Disclaimer: I own Homofactus Press]
