My Writing…

6.07.2006

Jay asked me to blog about my experience of writing.  I consider myself a novice writer with a great deal of potential.  I am almost cchildlike in my writing.  I fall in love with my own words and don’t see a "need" to rewrite them.  Yikes!  I get that attitude blasted out of the water by publishers and editors!

I belong to a writer’s group I love.  We do free writing "pen on paper for 15 minutes no matter what" and then share our writing.  It’s not usually something I end up  using as a submission piece, but I get immediate positive feedback and I thrive on that.  Doing that twice a month usually gets me through the, "ack they hate it" stage with my submissions.

My discipline for myself is to submit something every month.  Mostly to anthologies, although I have submitted a portion of a novel I’m working on.  It can be hard to find a call for submissions for every month, but wtihout that discipline, my writing goes in circles and really gets self-centered and childlike, which is not a bad thing, but is not productive generally.

I am not a morning person, by ANY stretch of the imagination.  But when I’m in the middle of a project, I’ll wake at 3 am, come into my den and light candles and incense, put on some music and write happily for 2 hours or so.  It is the magic time for my writing.  I do my rewrites by daylight, but love my writing time during the night.

Just a reminder, although we won’t see him till Monday probably, Jay will be home tomorrow!  YAY for traveling!  Yay for his thought provoking posts!  Yay for our good friend!

see you soon!
