Meeting Blogging Friends over Lunch and Wine

7.08.2006

This past week I’ve met two absolutely wonderful bloggers, Midwestern Transport and Brownfemipower.

MT visited our small hamlet in the midwest and met me over lunch to discuss Self-Organizing Men, which she graciously agreed to read as part of the Participatory Art Experience 6996.  We talked about art and culture-making and living in the midwest.  We also talked alot about art and culture- making as conversations ~ how as artists we are both trying to have conversations with the world.  Blogging is a great way to expand this conversation and for artists like us on a micro-budget, represents free marketing.  All told, MT is funny and smart and an artist/actor/singer.  Check out her show here.

Brownfemipower lives in my small hamlet, and so we met Saturday for drinks and nibbles.  Stormhoek provided the wine as part of their free marketing campaign (sound familiar?).  They sent me some free wine.  In turn, I write about it ~ whatever that might mean for me.  All drinking it agreed it was good ("not too many tannins") and easy to open with it’s nifty screw-off top.  (I don’t think they need consider Wild Irish Rose a competitor worthy of merit.)

Brownfemipower rocks, and I’m not just saying that because of the free wine.  This is the second time I’ve met her.  Each time our previously agreed upon two hour dates turn into five and six hour ones.  One of the coolest conversations we had is how bureaucracies are very oppressive and what that looks like for someone  trying to get on welfare and someone trying to change their gender.

I’m only writing about this stuff now because of the book.  And now, I should say book(s), since I’ve got two more lined up after SOM, with two more in the works.  Plus I have the day-job, which had taken an unfortunate turn to the dramatic, but I’ve managed to calm that one down.

Thank goodness, too, cause I can’t stand false drama!

As I sign off, I am curious how many of you might fancy a free published copy of Self-Organizing Men
