To Vincente Fox and the Soldiers in Oaxaca

"If there are sound reasons or bases for the points you demand, then there is no need to use violence. On the other hand, when there is no sound reason that concessions should be made to you but mainly your own desire, then reason cannot work and you have to rely on force. Thus, using force is not a sign of strength but rather a sign of weakness. Even in daily human contact, if we talk seriously, using reasons, there is no need to feel anger. We can argue the points. When we fail to prove with reason, then anger comes. When reason ends, then anger begins. Therefore, anger is a sign of weakness."His Holiness the Dalai Lama, from 'The Dalai Lama, A Policy of Kindness [1]: An Anthology of Writings by and About the Dalai Lama', Snow Lion Publications(thanks to brownfemipower [2] and vegankid [3]) [1] http://www.snowlionpub.com/store/store.cgi?affiliate=International_Kalachakra_Network&page=pages/POKIL.php [2] http://brownfemipower.com/?p=585 [3] http://vegankid.solidaritydesign.net/2006/10/31/as-political-as-his-life

Trans People Have the Right to Vote

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

National Center for Transgender Equality [1] Don't let these barriers stop you from voting -- you have a right to vote. Trans people may find voting to be an intimidating process for many reasons, but it can be simple and easy. NTAC has a voter's guide here [2] to help you if the "m" and "f" don't quite add up to suit the folks at the voting booths. You're vote matters. Vote. A Global Microbrand Means…

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

You receive an email from a person in Angola [1] who wants to buy Self-Organizing Men [2].A Global microbrand also means funds transfers becomes a huge challenge, particularly when transfer agents only deal in the world's top fifteen currencies. (Hint: US, UK, Canada, AZ, Europe, Japan, South Africa.....). Alas, we in the so-called developed world find innumerable ways to block commerce and trade with folks who aren't part of our in-crowd....All brought to you by the internet. I’m a Former Felon and Current Loser

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I saw Leslie Feinberg [1] last night. Ze reminded me that the period in my life when my Driver's License said M and my birth certficate said F constitutes felonious behavior in 'mmurka. That means I'm a former felon! After listening to Les' talk I realized that, in addition to being a felon, I'm a loser felon.I just can't get behind a particular political ideology anymore to support it outright. Lenin [2] topples the Czars who killed alot of people, then kills those people...The U.S. removes Mossideq [3] then installs the Shah [4] who killed a lot of people except Khomeini [5] who comes back and kills alot of people.....The killing of all kinds needs to stop. That's a practice I can support. And in saying that I realize I have become a big progressive left-wing loser. The foundation of my practice is not Dismantling Capital nor Destroying Patriarchy. The foundation of my practice is the breath.  Its tools are Compassion and Diligence. Doesn't this just sound like I'm such a woo-woo loser? But I think hate only begets hate. And the Shah hated as many people as Khomeini hated as many people as George Bush hated as many people as I hated as many people....We have such low tolerance for spiritual practice on the left. Suspect we are. Duped. Maybe. But I'd rather be known as someone whose allegiance fell to individuals first and ideas second. Is I a Leftist? [6]Don't know. But at least I'm still a former felon. Pay Attention

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

The hardest part about getting things done is paying attention. Those tiny little details bore me compared to the fabulous tapes that run in my head.Return an email : snooZZZZee.Obsess about why X is a bitch : Lovely. Wonderful. The point of why I'm here. When I break through my defenses and am just here, breathing, everything is amazing. So I have to keep paying attention.Attention means attention.

Reading on Hurricanes Rita and Katrina ~ One Year Later

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

My Sunday reading, a kind of spiritual reminder that we have much work still to do, to end poverty, to enhance coordination between granting agencies, to provide more grants for overhead and salaries, to provide continued practical assistance to thousands of our people still suffering a year plus later. From Oxfam America [1]: Forgotten Communities, Unmet Promises [2]: One year ago, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, elected officials at all levels pledged bold new action and committed to righting inequities as devastated communities rebuilt—better, safer, with more access to opportunity than before. However, despite their pledges that the most vulnerable citizens would get the help they needed to reclaim their lives and livelihoods, lawmakers have lacked the political will to turn their rhetoric into action. Getting Things Done

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

Isn't it axiomatic that revolution and liberation movements  never discuss time management, productivity, organization and money (unless it's capital). But with the revocation of my feminist card, I suspect my radical card shall be liberated from my person soon.As a nerd at heart I tend to spend grey matter working with various systems to make my day job, my business, my speaking gigs, my writing projects, my blogs and family engagements easier to manage. How does this impact the revolution? If Iforget to schedule that important moment in the hard landscape of my life, I will remember to show up for it?Seriously, though, I approach productivity and time and money management with care. Buddhism and yoga ask us to tend to both the people and things in our life. How we treat our things - clothes, car, books, papers, furniture, appliances - reflect how we care for ourselves.I know this isn't a very sexy topic. It doesn't rile up the spirit. No one will link to this post. But I believe the majority of us struggle in varying degrees with how to management our multiple obligations in life. I have simply had to manage the information in my life in a manner that works for me so I can be more effective in the actions that I believe make a difference in my life. That, and the fact that I hate working on activity A while that nagging little voice in my head says, "oh you forgot to do this. Don't forget to do that. Shit, I still haven't called x back..."I just really fucking hate when I'm distracted through my very own hand! So I have my moleskines, and my email folders, and next actions, so I can work on getting things done.

‘Our War Wounds Are Our Shields’

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

We of the 'Trans' Guerrilla believe in the power of SHOWING ourselves, talking about our bodies, our sexuality, our differences and the thousand identities that are hidden beneath that label of "trans". We want to be visible and we speak in the first person. We want to possess gender, redefine our BODIES and create free, open networks where we can develop, where anyone can build up their security mechanisms against gender pressure. We aren't victims; our war wounds are our shields. From Guerrilla Travolaka Manifesto [1]  [1] http://guerrilla-travolaka.blogspot.com/2006/10/manifesto-translated-to-english.html

Raised Fists

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

[1] Bitch/Lab's [2] post [3] today inspired me to create this image. Perhaps we can create our own campaign around Afghan Women's Resistance. This image isn't the greatest I admit....If someone is willing to help pull together pertinent info I'm happy to post the info here at my blog.An alternative could have been “Celebrate the Resistance of Afghan Women” with a pin of a hand folded into a fist, to acknowledge the very real struggle that Afghan women wage every day….And a huge hat tip to brownfemipower [4]! for fighting imperialism in all its guises. I've learned so much from you and BL [5] on this subject.
