Getting Things Done
21.10.2006Isn’t it axiomatic that revolution and liberation movements never discuss time management, productivity, organization and money (unless it’s capital).
But with the revocation of my feminist card, I suspect my radical card shall be liberated from my person soon.
As a nerd at heart I tend to spend grey matter working with various systems to make my day job, my business, my speaking gigs, my writing projects, my blogs and family engagements easier to manage.
How does this impact the revolution?
If Iforget to schedule that important moment in the hard landscape of my life, I will remember to show up for it?
Seriously, though, I approach productivity and time and money management with care. Buddhism and yoga ask us to tend to both the people and things in our life. How we treat our things - clothes, car, books, papers, furniture, appliances - reflect how we care for ourselves.
I know this isn’t a very sexy topic. It doesn’t rile up the spirit. No one will link to this post.
But I believe the majority of us struggle in varying degrees with how to management our multiple obligations in life. I have simply had to manage the information in my life in a manner that works for me so I can be more effective in the actions that I believe make a difference in my life.
That, and the fact that I hate working on activity A while that nagging little voice in my head says, "oh you forgot to do this. Don’t forget to do that. Shit, I still haven’t called x back…"
I just really fucking hate when I’m distracted through my very own hand!
So I have my moleskines, and my email folders, and next actions, so I can work on getting things done.
