I created Self-Organizing Men because I wanted to explore issues of paradox and bodily incoherence. For example, how does one embody vulnerable masculinity? I was completely uninterested in creating a text where one certain identity topped all others.
What I wanted to create was a poly-vocal, multi-voiced book of images, poetry, essays, and personal reflections that functioned like a jazz ensemble.
